Updated June 2018: The Terminal app received new features and a design revamp in June 2018 - read all about it.

Today, we're very excited to announce the new RotaCloud Terminal app, available for iPad and Android.

The new app allows Managers and Admins to set up a terminal using a dedicated app, rather than within a web browser. Switching to a native app unlocks new features and capabilities that aren't possible with a web-based terminal:

  • Clock-in Photos. You can now use your device's front-facing camera to capture an image of everyone who clocks in and out. This image will be accessible in the timesheets, allowing you to verify that each clock-in was made by the right employee.
  • Clocking In Without a Shift. Using the new terminal app, employees can clock into work even if they don't have a shift scheduled on the rota. This functionality will also come to the RotaCloud mobile app soon.
  • Enhanced reliability. The RotaCloud Terminal app is more stable and reliable than the web-based version.
  • Smoother performance
  • Improved design

System Requirements

Android

  • Requires an Android device running Android 4.4 'KitKat' or above.
    • Android 6.0 'Lollipop' or above recommended for better compatibility with future updates.
    • Amazon Kindle Fire tablets are not supported.
  • For Clock-in Photos, the device requires a front-facing camera. You can still use the terminal app without a front-facing camera, but you won't have access to the Clock-in Photos feature.
  • Requires an active internet connection.
  • We recommend keeping the device connected to a power source, as the Terminal app prevents the device's display from going to sleep which could cause the battery to drain.

iPad

  • Requires an iPad running iOS 10.2 or newer:
    • iPad (4th generation)
    • iPad Air
    • iPad Air 2
    • iPad (2017)
    • iPad Mini 2 or newer
    • iPad Pro
  • Requires an active internet connection.
  • We recommend keeping the iPad plugged in to charge, as the Terminal app prevents the iPad's display from going to sleep which could cause the battery to drain.

The web-based terminal will still be available, so if you have an incompatible tablet or computer, you can continue to run your terminal as before. Bear in mind that clock-in photos and clocking in without a shift are not supported on the web-based terminal.
